One day there will be Ye Filwiha Publishing Agency that dwarfs Simon & Schuster and I'll publish the poems of ye Qolo and Wegesha... all proceeds will go the street kids in Addis

p.s. there's a Mega Lottery draw on Fridays, right? (Comment this)

4 - Deciphering Wegesha’s six liner poem on “Bees”

First of all, considering the timely posting of this poem, it is easy to understand this poem is not about the day to day life of bees or the people that rip the benefits thereof. It is clearly political. As tsegasaurus has hinted, it is definitely more than a simple observation of current day Ethiopian politics because it sways to one side. The question is, which group is this propaganda favoring? The “bee” was the symbol adopted by EPRDF and the poem starts out by seeming to be in favor of EPRDF and criticizing the populace, especially the students.

The 3rd line is telling of what EPRDF thinks it has accomplished as a ruling party which is providing the mass with luxuries and conveniences of daily living (as the party has claimed). However, the poem switches everything in the last line by giving it a double meaning. The meaning that stands out is that the populace/students do not even appreciate the luxuries they have been given and seem to want change. The hidden meaning is more sinister than that. The last word “temaru” does not refer to honey but instead to how the new generation is more educated (and by this I believe Wegesha is talking about the political awareness of the youth) and rightfully denying the rule of the last 14 years.

I can’t say Wegesha is a CUD supporter but he opposes the current day government.
