Friends make weekends fun

The weekend was wonderful. Few friends from out of town and few local friends got together for some pre-party drinking at my place. Then we headed to a concert where the latest star in the Ethiopian music scene, Shewandagn, was performing. The hall was not air conditioned and we had to suffer in the heat. At some point in the morning, the heat became unbearable and while some of us left the hall preferring to enjoy the wonderful warm Harlem breeze, others chose the bushes:-) The concert would have been much better if it was held in a better hall.

For the first time, I tried inline skating (roller-blading). I managed to learn how to stand up and move forward. I have learned that rollerblading is all about how well one "V meqeser" and "L meqeser" to balance oneself on top of the fast flying wheelsJ (at least that is what my friend instructor claims). My behind kissed the ground few times but it did not stop me from enjoying myself. I am looking forward to make inline skating part of my daily activity.

1 - LOL.... must say that the most enjoyable part of the weekend was the frequent "L mesrat" and grabbing of the knees that was going on as you were learning to skate. Even the itty bitty doggie was terrified of you heading towards her at "lightning speed" stooping to keep balance. Seriously though, as a coward who never made it on the skates,.... and a person who is smart enough to not be willing to do so in the presence of G and Nebex (yes I know better ... endemetsekubigne)-- I have to say that you did really well. VIVA NEBEYU. So I guess next time we go to Central Park and hear the "nefas" and feel a presence (that I cannot see) I will be sure to tell myself that it is you passing by, at the speed of sound, twirling and doing tricks on your skates.

As for the concert,... chomaye kelete. All the alcohol evaporated from my body and left me no choice other than to head outside. I'm sure that had we gone to the party around the corner, at the other end of the hallway, we could have had a little more fun. But all in all I had a great time... the first time since Addis that I got home "lemagne k*r* behuala".

I guess the only way that this weekend could have been more perfect is if some people had picked us up 2 hours earlier and we didn't have to walk around aimlessly (looking homless with our bags) eating dabo kolo out of a zip lock bag and drinking tej from a water bottle-- can you say ghetto. Or as Nebeyu happily quoted Trick Daddy "Baby cause I'm a Thuuuuuuuuug" (Comment this)
